Use a branded normal telescopic channel for light, low use drawers. Choose a soft close telescopic channel when you want quiet closing at a sensible cost. Choose Quadro when you want a concealed runner under a custom wooden drawer. Choose InnoTech Atira when you want a complete metal sided drawer system for frequent kitchen use, wide drawers or heavier utensils. The most important correction is this: Quadro is a runner family, while InnoTech Atira is a drawer system that uses compatible Quadro runners.

First, Fix the Terminology

The furniture trade often uses “channel”, “runner”, “tandem” and “drawer system” as if they mean the same thing. They do not.

Normal telescopic channel

A steel ball bearing runner fitted to both sides of a wooden or engineered board drawer. It is visible when the drawer opens. Most residential versions provide full extension.

Soft close telescopic channel

Those details belong to that exact model. They should not be copied to every soft close channel sold under the same brand.

What soft close actually improves

It controls the final part of closing. That reduces impact, noise and the tendency of contents to shift. It also makes daily use feel more considered.

What soft close does not improve

It does not increase the runner’s load rating. It does not correct a twisted drawer. It does not compensate for wrong side clearance. It does not make galvanised steel waterproof. A damper can also lose performance before the ball bearing slide itself wears out.

When not to choose it

Why not use Quadro in every drawer

Quadro needs accurate fabrication. Drawer width, bottom position, side thickness, cabinet depth and catch selection must follow the product drawing. A poorly made Quadro drawer can bind or sit unevenly even though the runner itself is excellent.

It is also not automatically the strongest option. The widely available V6 example above is in the 30 kg class. A side mounted telescopic runner may carry more if its exact model is rated higher. Quadro mainly buys concealment, movement quality, adjustment and a cleaner wooden drawer format.

Best use: premium custom wooden drawers made by a fabricator who can work to the manufacturer’s technical drawing.

InnoTech Atira combines double walled steel drawer sides, connectors, optional railings, interior organisation and concealed Quadro runners. Hettich describes it as a drawer platform with Quadro partial and full extension runners up to 50 kg.

2. Utensil drawers opened many times a day
3. Deep pot and pan drawers
4. Wide drawers that need a rigid system structure
5. Pantry drawers within the selected model’s load limit

Choose 30 kg or 50 kg by loaded weight

The load includes the drawer itself and everything placed inside it. Steel kadhais, pressure cookers, lids and appliances add weight quickly. Hettich lists Quadro V6 options in the 30 kg class and Quadro V6+ Silent System options in the 50 kg class for compatible InnoTech Atira configurations.

Do not accept “InnoTech” as the complete specification. Ask whether the runner is partial extension or full extension, whether it is 30 kg or 50 kg, and whether the price includes the side set, runner, connectors, railing and organiser.

Why not use InnoTech Atira everywhere

It is more expensive. Metal side profiles may not suit a buyer who wants matching wooden drawer sides. The system also has more model specific parts, so future service depends on retaining the invoice and product details.

It is unnecessary for a small bedside drawer or a loft drawer opened a few times a year. Premium hardware used without a real need is not better value.

Wardrobe and dresser

A branded normal telescopic channel is enough for occasional light drawers. Soft close telescopic is the practical daily use upgrade. Choose Quadro when concealed hardware, matching wooden sides and precise front gaps matter. InnoTech Atira works, but is rarely necessary for ordinary clothing drawers.

Study, office and TV unit

Full extension

Soft close

Push to open

Loaded Handover Test Before Final Payment

Test every important drawer with a realistic load, not while it is empty.

1. Add the plates, cookware, clothes or files the drawer will normally hold.
2. Open it fully and check whether the front drops, twists or rubs another front.
3. Close it gently and firmly. A soft close drawer should capture consistently.
4. Check that gaps are even and the front sits flush.
5. Pull a wide drawer from the left, centre and right. It should not bind.
6. Remove and reinstall it using the intended catch or release mechanism.
7. Photograph the carton label and order number. Keep the invoice.
8. Check nearby plumbing for any drip before loading the drawer permanently.

Never test a residential drawer by sitting or standing on it. A 30 kg or 50 kg distributed load inside the drawer is not permission to apply a person’s weight to the extended front edge.
